An officer on routine patrol on Stony Street on Thursday, Nov. 29 spotted a car speeding, prompting a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, it was determined that the driver - a 31-year-old man from Yorktown whose name was not released - had a suspended license and the vehicle he was driving was uninspected.
A Yorktown police canine unit was called to the scene, where Dallas and his partner, Officer Thomas Beyrer searched the vehicle and found a quantity of concealed cocaine. A passenger in the vehicle, a 31-year-old Mahopac man, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. The driver was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and was cited for speeding and having an uninspected motor vehicle.
Both men were transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters, where they were processed. The driver was released and the passenger was held overnight before being released on $2,500 cash bail. Both are scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court next month.
